The story

Feature film · Afrikaans & Kaaps

From Unchained Studio comes Mêdum - a fresh, heartfelt Afrikaans film filled with family, drama, music, laughter and the power of following your dreams.

At the heart of the story is Mêdum, a young girl whose life begins with a painful choice. Her mother is forced to choose between her child and her career- and chooses her career. Mêdum is left in a shoebox at a caravan park, her future seemingly decided before she has even had a chance to choose it for herself.

Raised by a middle-aged couple who know the truth about her past, Mêdum grows up surrounded by love, but also by rules. They know exactly what happened to her mother and are determined to protect Mêdum from making the same mistakes. So when they discover her passion for singing, they forbid her from pursuing it.

But there’s just one problem...

Singing is the one thing Mêdum was born to do.

Because sometimes the thing people try hardest to take away from you... is the very thing that was meant to set you free.

A new voice.

A new star.

A story that will stay with you.
